The boy on the cart looks like Wee George Hanlin. He used to go out with Wull Doctor.

That is my grandfather’s shop - Robert Baird who died in 1965. My grandmother, Margaret (Meg) Baird lived to 105 and died in 1999. I am sure that the boy with Wull Doctor is actually my brother Phil. I seem to remember him talking about this.

I STEWART. (2006-02-05)

The boy on the cart that day is Iain Stewart, age 10.

Could that shop be my family’s butcher shop? I don’t know when my Dad started it, but certainly before WWII, he was killed in Italy in 1945, but My Mum, Rachel Greig, continued for a few more years.

Billy “doc” Docherty (2007-11-12)

This is my great grandfather. The horse was called “Queenie” and retired to Scotscraig Farm. Sending this message from Barcelona.

In the 50’s I also helped Wull doctor from time to time ; going up to the houses and taking orders then delivering the produce . We always had to ask if there was any old bread for the horse ! On my first occasion when I got some bread I gave it to the horse . What are you doing he bellowed ? The bread is to feed the chickens !! At that time I lived on Craig Road and after Wull had passed I was sent out by my mother to shovel up the dung if we were lucky which went on the rhubarb .

The sweetie shop in the background was owned by the Sangsters in the late 1950s . It also sold fireworks ; the penny “ Demon “ was the favorite “ banger ‘ at that time and was quite powefull . As kids we would core an apple and put a demon in Light it and chuck it ! Made a very effective grenade for us kids playing “war Games “
