The braes looked better then than they do now. Used more then. Pity we can’t get them back to they used to be.

Happy days on the braes as a child. I spent all my summer holidays with my grandparents at the house in the picture called “Whinbrae”.My father was one of the six Roger boys who lived there on there return from India. My granny, Catherine Braid ,has a road in Tayport named after her family (Braid Road) The house next door to Whinbrae called Oristano was owned by Captain Williamson. On the other side the house was called Pearl Bank and owned by the Fraser family.

I remember Mrs Calder taking my class here for a walk. She told us the highest point here (now fenced off) was called Stanin Hill. The Press Gang used to carry the drunk men coming from the pubs and carry them off to their boats, hidden under the hill. When the wives heard of this, they would throw stones at the Press Gang, hence the name Stanin Hill.

I guess Kathleen and I were in the same class. I remember that day down the braes very well.
