Lucky Island

Local History

In 1861 there stood on Lucky Island the ruins of a salmon fisher’s bothy; this building was taken down by Admiral Dougall and the materials used in building the following tower:

This tower was safely demolished on Feburary 12th, 1979, as it was in a dangerous state.

When the tide is out it is possible to walk across the sands to the island. When the tide is in it is surrounded by water. Mr Peters mentioned that people would sometimes camp on the island over night.
