My Grandfather John RAMSAY & my Gt Grandfather David RAMSAY were janitors at the school. David, from late in the 1800s until his death in 1903 when John took over. My Dad lived in what was refered to as the School House, which was next door to the school.

Does anyone know who holds the school registers? I would like to find my grandmother’s siblings circa 1930’s. They lived at Scotscraig.

Beef (2008-02-26)

I had Mr Lumsden as my teacher around 1974/75. We were in the room on the top left in the photograph. Who was the headteacher? I can’t remember her name. Her office was right next door to the classroom. Scary woman!

Maureen Roger (Treasurer) (2008-06-29)

I went to Tayport school from 1931 and remember Greasy Beard well. Often wondered why she got that name? How about Belle Douglas who gave me the strap for putting a letter in the wrong column !!

Lorrene Dick (2008-07-15)

Hi to Pauline. What do you mean Mr Lumsden was the best teacher? Surely that was Mrs Feachney? Nope maybe not. Love Lorrene

May lawson (2009-03-06)

I remember Greasy Beard - belting me with the strap - because I had run down the corridor and knocked her over with the tea things for the teachers. Also remember Dolly Baxter - she was very beautiful…

kate graham (2009-03-11)

i went to this school late 60s early 70s mr Bonthrone was the headmaster at that time, i thought he was really scary

Catherine Jaraszkiewicz (2009-05-01)

John Ramsay, one of the jannies, had the nickname of Jeckie Appleguts. My auntie Janet Reid Fisher remembers him as the truantcatcher as well.(He caught her once “playing plunk”).

craig (2009-05-16)

mr lumsden all the way, but woe betide you got on his wrongside, often found myself in”siberia” his version of an isolation cell!

sarah (2009-07-06)

i have just left this school with many memories some good and some bad.

DIGITDI (2009-11-13)

I WENT TO TAYPORT SCHOOL FROM 1955 TO 1965 REMEMBER HAPPY DAN A BOY IN OUR CLASS TOOK THE BELT FROM HIM AND TOSSED IT OUT THE WINDOW IT LANDED IN THE PLAYGROUND

Scarred for life! (2009-12-05)

I love the above comment!!! Too many of the teachers at school used the belt for small offences. I went through primary feeling very frightened at nearly ALL the teachers. Even witnessing a child being belted terrified me. Miss Douglas, Miss Campbell and Miss Murray were the 3 witches. HORRIBLE TEACHERS! Miss Beat was lovely though.

m.rae (2010-05-02)

i left tayport primary in 1999. i remember the story of the last toilet in the girls being haunted lol

[name withheld] (2011-06-11)

I was at Tayport Primary from 1965-1972 first at the wee school in Albert St and then at the big school. Miss Baxter and Miss Lornie were scary but excellent teachers.

Tina (2013-02-17)

Is the same school that was known as the “Parochial School” in the early 19th century? If so my GGG Grandfather, Charles Ramsay was the Parochial Schoolmaster there from about c1825 - 1845.

Jane Dougan (2013-04-16)

My grandmother Ada Sawdon went to Tayport School sometime around 1885, she was sent to board there from England. Her aunt or close relative was headmistress. Would there be any records of who this might be? My email is douganjane@gmail.com
