This photo was taken long before 1979. The cross had long disappeared as had the door. The shoreline in the picture is much further away than it was in 1979, when the sea had started to undermine the foundations, causing the tower to lean to the north.

I used to go out there in the late forties early fifties the doorway was just a hole and a pile of rubbish inside there was no cross at that time
