Here is a picture of a painting my grandfather Sam Nelson did several years after arriving in Canada from his home town Tayport. It is of the Old Harbour, and I attached a snap of the present-day scene for comparison. I guess his memory played some tricks on him over the years since he left home and eventually painted the picture, because the angles are not accurate but you can see certain details, like the ramp on the right quay next to where the railway used to go, and the channel light even though the distance is wrong. I guess he would have spent a lot of time down there as a boy in the 1880s and 1890s.

Re the painting. The harbour in the painting is very much like the harbour in St Andrews. I am not certain but evrything about it is correct right down to the angles and walls with the light at the end ( Now Gone)
