Hi - delighted to find your site - my great grandfather was living in Scotscraig House in 1861 prior to emigrating to New Zealand in May 1861. I understand he was probably the School Master there from family lore.

Back in the early 50’s the roof was taken off so they did not have to pay taxes . The estate was at that time owned by Colonel Henderson . The grounds were kept in fair state and were used for the Maitland Street Church for Sunday School picnics . My friend Lyle Croll and I were both employed one summer as gardeners in the walled market garden which produced all the veg for the estate . At that time I recollect there were two familys living and working on the estate . Duncans and Lumley’s .
